POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS)

 Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a health condition affecting women of reproductive age. It is a hormonal disorder affecting the ovaries and interfering with the normal process of egg development and release from the ovaries. There is cyst formation in the ovaries, which are little sacs filled with fluid.
The exact cause of PCOS is still unknown. Most potential cause of this condition can be hormonal imbalance. Other possible causes are genetics & family history of PCOS, inflammation in the body. Women dealing with high stress levels, higher insulin levels & obesity are at a higher risk of developing PCOS.
Some common signs & symptoms of PCOS are:
• Irregular menstrual cycle
• Excessive hair growth on face & body
• Acne on face & upper body
• Skin darkening
• Weight gain
• Sleeping disorders
• Mood swings
• Fatigue
• Infertility
PCOS cannot be cured but it can be managed with the help of some medications & lifestyle changes. The symptoms of PCOS can be managed under proper medical guidance. A healthy lifestyle, a nutritious diet & regular exercising goes a long way in the management of PCOS.
