Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which the affected person finds it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep or go back to sleep if he wakes up in the middle of the night. Insomnia results in tiredness, low energy levels, mood changes, poor health, and poor work performance.
Insomnia can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Acute insomnia lasts for a few days to months and is often due to stress. Chronic insomnia lasts for more than a month and it can be idiopathic (without any reason) or caused due to certain medical conditions, side effects of medicines, or lifestyle factors.
People suffering from insomnia complain of low energy, poor concentration, daytime sleepiness, headache, mood changes, anxiety, or depression. Insomnia can affect both the physical & mental health of the affected person.
In most cases, insomnia can be cured. A few lifestyle changes can help with insomnia. Follow a sleep routine, have a comfortable sleeping space, and practice some relaxation techniques such as body massage, taking a long bath, aromatherapy, etc. before going to sleep. If your insomnia is getting serious it is always better to consult a doctor and get proper treatment.
