There is no medication or treatment available currently to treat fatty liver disease. But fatty liver disease can be managed with the help of some diet and lifestyle changes.
LOSE THAT EXTRA WEIGHT
Losing extra weight can improve the symptoms of fatty liver disease and can reduce fat buildup in the liver. Take small steps to lose weight and maintain it. Don’t fall for unsustainable means of weight loss like fasting & extreme diets.
EAT A HEALTHY DIET
Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Try to eat a variety of fruits & vegetables. Include healthy fats (nuts, seeds, olive oil), whole grains & lean protein in your diet.
GET REGULAR EXERCISE
It is important to get regular exercise when you have fatty liver disease. It is advisable to exercise for 30 minutes daily for 5 days a week. Try to include moderate physical activity in your daily routine.
AVOID FOODS WITH ADDED SUGARS
Most store-bought & commercially processed foods are high in added sugars. These added sugars can cause fat buildup in the liver over time. Before buying any packaged food, read the ingredient list carefully and check its nutrition facts.
LIMIT ALCOHOL
Too much alcohol intake can damage the liver cells & cause fatty liver and ultimately leads to cirrhosis. It is better to limit your alcohol intake or completely avoid drinking.
ANTIOXIDANTS FOR LIVER
Foods like coffee, green tea, raw garlic, fruits & vegetables, and vitamin E contain compounds known as antioxidants. These antioxidants can help protect liver cells from damage & reduce fat buildup in the liver.
